George Washington University protest enters day 6, protestors push for amnesty

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Protestors at George Washington University (GWU) demanded amnesty for anyone punished during their demonstration, including the seven students whom the school suspended last Friday.

“I think everybody here is… really motivated and angry, and we’re ready to keep fighting however long it takes,” said Miriam, who declined to give her last name, a sophomore at Georgetown University.

‘This is about the genocide that’s going on in Gaza’: George Washington University demonstrations continue into 2nd day

Students from Georgetown University and American University have joined GWU students in the protest since it started on April 25.

More tents have popped up in the University Yard, which protestors now refer to as a liberation zone. They’re demanding a free Palestine and for GWU and other universities to stop supporting Israel.

Not every student agrees with the protestors’ ideology.

“I feel under attack,” said Geena Seflin, a sophomore at GWU.

The protestors have made her concerned for her safety.

“I’m trying to focus on doing my finals and I can’t like I can’t think and I can’t study and I can’t rest,” said Seflin. “And I just can’t be my normal self when I feel like there’s so many students on campus that don’t want me here.”

The University Yard remains open on campus. However, the Professor’s Gate remains closed to everyone. You also need a door card to enter any of the university’s buildings.
