Georgetown ISD experiencing growing pains in country’s fastest-growing city

The call for the bond election followed a recommendation from the Citizens’ Advisory Committee that studied current facilities and facility assessments, demographic reports and enrollment projections, financial information, educational programs, and immediate and future needs of the district, according to the board.

In the last five years, Georgetown ISD has grown by nearly 14%, and according to a recent demographic study, the district is anticipated to grow by another 6,000 students by the year 2033, the school board said in a release.

According to the board, three of the district’s current elementary schools, two of the current middle schools and East View High School are all projected to be at or near capacity by the 2027-2028 school year.

The board said in its release that new facilities in the fastest-growing areas of the district will help alleviate crowding at these campuses and provide engaging spaces for students to learn.

The release said the district anticipates that the tax rate impact on property owners could range from zero cents to a maximum 1 cent per $100 valuation, or $2.77 monthly for the average home in Georgetown ISD.

The district will hold community presentations this spring so citizens can learn more. Georgetown ISD said it will update its calendar as presentations are scheduled, and more information can be found at online.
