Mississippi State basketball lands Gai Chol, Georgia 3-star center in 2023

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State basketball coach Chris Jans started building his 2023 class in a big way Saturday with the commitment of Gai Chol.

Chol is a 7-foot center out of Greenforest McCalep Christian Academy in Decatur, Georgia. He is a three-star prospect, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Chol is the first 2023 commit for Mississippi State. The Bulldogs still have a spot remaining on the 2022 roster.

Chol is the No. 23 center in the nation, per 247Sports, and the No. 11 player out of Georgia. He was primarily recruited by assistant George Brooks, according to 247Sports, whom Jans retained from Ben Howland's staff.

Mississippi State was part of a top seven for Chol that included Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Cincinnati and Wofford.
