Georgia-Alabama: Snow a possibility, but low temps a definite for national championship game

After several weeks of high temperatures to close out 2021 in Athens, a cold front entered much of North Georgia. The high in Athens this week was59 degrees.

But as cold as it may be for Georgians, it's nothing compared to what those making the trip to Indianapolis are set to experience.

From now to Tuesday, the highest temperature in the forecast in Indianapolis is 41 degrees Sunday, per Apple Weather. Friday had a low of degrees.

Monday, when Georgia and Alabama will meet for the national championship, has a high of 26 and a low of 11 degrees. Sunny skies are in the forecast on game day, but Sunday has about a 60% chance of snow.

Fortunately for the teams and fans attending the game, Lucas Oil Stadium has a closed-in roof, so the weather won't be a factor during the game itself. But walking around the stadium and Indianapolis will require layers.

The home stadium of the Indianapolis Colts is no stranger to hosting big events, having hosted Super Bowl XLVI, multiple men's basketball Final Fours, the Big Ten football championship games, NFL combine, Kenny Chesney four times and One Direction in 2015, among other events.

Kickoff between the No. 1 Crimson Tide and No. 3 Bulldogs is set for 8 p.m. ET Monday, Jan. 10 and will be broadcast on ESPN.
