Georgia athletics reports six NCAA minor violations in final three months of 2021
Georgia reported three NCAA violations involving the football program for impermissible recruiting inducements between October and the end of December in its latest quarterly summary.
They were part of six violations for Bulldogs athletic teams reported during that time, according to information obtained in an open records request.
Georgia deemed all six violations to be Level III, considered isolated or limited in nature.

One violation resulted in football staff members being prohibited from going with recruits or their guests to the UGA bookstore.
That stemmed from an Oct. 17 violation when a non-coaching staff member gave a $50 loan to a recruit’s parent to complete a purchase. The parent said he would repay the loan but the staff member failed to collect the repayment when the family hurried to leave campus for a flight.
Georgia stopped recruiting the player and the staff member was barred from recruiting activities for 90 days.
Another violation dated Sept. 17 — the weekend of the South Carolina home game — involved a recruit staying two nights in the off-campus apartment of a current player. The current player received rules education.
Georgia also reported a violation from Oct. 2 — when it had a home game against Arkansas — that involved a recruit and his mother staying at the house of a non-coaching athletic staff member who is a longtime friend of the mother.
The football staff was kept from on-campus contact with the recruit for 90 days and limited to one off-campus contact with the recruit during his senior season.
Georgia said the football staff didn’t arrange for and was unaware of the lodging in both of those violations. The recruit in each had to repay the value of their stays to a charity.
A new NCAA constitution was adopted last week and its rules and who will enforce them will be considered by a transformation committee.
Two violations Georgia reported involved the track and field program.
One was for exceeding the weekly practice time limits in September by an hour two weeks in a row. Those athletes had practice hours reduced the next two weeks.
The other track violation was for an impermissible recruiting contact. A non-coaching staff member made a call and exchanged text messages with an athlete before the athlete entered the transfer portal. The staff member had worked at the school of the athlete previously but Georgia said the communications were not recruiting related. Georgia stopped recruiting the athlete.
The remaining violation was in equestrian and involved a staff member paying for an $11 appetizer for the recruit during an unofficial visit. The restaurant mistakenly put the appetizer on the staff member’s bill instead of the recruit. The recruit had to repay the $11 value to charity.
