Georgia basketball tips off season under Mike White. Get to know the 7 Bulldog newcomers
In the weeks that followed Mike White’s hire as Georgia basketball coach, the now familiar roster churn that seems to be the norm these days in the college game brought changes.
By the time all the comings and goings ended, Georgia had six new players from the transfer portal and a high school signee who was released from his letter of intent elsewhere.
They join five returnees from last season’s team that went 6-26 — Kario Oquendo, Braelen Bridges, Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Jaxon Etter and Jailyn Ingram-and two walk-ons added.

The new-look Bulldogs will debut Monday night for White’s first game against Western Carolina in Stegeman Coliseum. It's the second game of a doubleheader following a 6 p.m. women's basketball game against Coastal Carolina.
“We wanted to bring in some winning experience and we did that,” said White, the former Florida coach. “We wanted to bring in guys that fit what we were trying to do defensively and on the glass as much as anything, just to try to maintain a level of competitiveness in those areas, which are a little bit easier to control. In a rebuild, in my opinion, coming off a tough year of course, I thought those were the areas that may give us a chance to be competitive night in and night out.”
Here's a rundown of the seven scholarship newcomers on Georgia’s roster:
Frank Anselem
C, 6-10, 215 Jr., Syracuse, Lagos, Nigeria
Stats: 2.6 points and 3.8 rebounds last season. Shot 62.5 percent from the field
Worth noting: Second on Orange with 17 blocks last season.
Fun fact: Played at Westlake in Atlanta and Lincoln Academy in Suwanee before finishing his high school career at Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif.
Quotable: "Energy. Energy, energy, energy. Like if I can personify Frank, it would be this, you know, the little bunny from the battery commercial. I would say that because Frank just is non-stop. He's got a great motor, he's all over the glass. I love playing with Frank." -- Jaxon Etter
Justin Hill
G, 6-0 185, Jr., Longwood, Houston
Stats: 14.2 ppg, 4.2 apg.
Worth noting: Hill missed about a month in the preseason with a hamstring injury.
Fun fact: Fifth in the Big South in steals at 1.5 per game for a team that reached its first ever NCAA tournament.
Quotable: “He's got a great attitude and brings it every day. He's got a great motor for a point guard. He just goes, goes, goes, offensively and defensively. He's a detail guy, little things are important to him. If you ask him to do something that other guys might think could be a little bit trivial, it might be minor, but it's big to him.” --Mike White
Jusaun Holt
G, 6-7, 190, So., Alabama, Tacoma, Wash.
Stats: 0.7 ppg, 1.6 rpg last season.
Worth noting: A four-star recruit out of St. Francis Day in Roswell which won state titles in 2019 and 2020;
Fun fact: Nicknamed “Juice.”
Quotable: “He's got room for growth offensively and defensively, but from an effort, energy, competitive standpoint, versatility as well, he brings us a lot. He's got a chance to impact this program.”--Mike White
KyeRon Lindsay
F, 6-7, 215, Fr., Denton, Texas
Stats: 23.3 ppg, 11.6 rpg as a senior at Guyer High School
Worth noting: Signed initially with UNLV in November, 2021. Rated as the No. 87 overall prospect by the 247Sports Composite.
Fun fact: Named Breakout Player at Nike EYBL Peach Jam tournament in summer of 2021.
Quotable: “He's got to be ambidextrous, his ability to use either hand. He's a lefty who has just as good of an ability in the paint to finish with his right hand. He's got some of these junk shots that he just throws stuff up at the rim. He's got great touch. He's one of these guys that, a lot of stuff he throws up at the rim finds a way to go in, and he's just got a nose to score it.”--Mike White
Mardrez McBride
G, 6-2, 180. Sr. North Texas, Augusta
Stats: 11.3 pppg, 79 3-pointers last season.
Fun fact: He was the MVP of both the basketball and football team at Butler High in Augusta.
Worth noting: This is the fourth college stop for McBride who played at USC Salkehatchie and McCook College before North Texas.
Quotable: “He’s a left-handed shooter, knock down. He can get to the basket and create for others. He’s a well-rounded player.”--Braelen Bridges.
Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe
F, 6-7, 215, Jr., Oklahoma State, Toronto
Stats: 4.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg last season. 51.0 FG%
Fun fact: Wore sunglasses during the slam dunk contest at Stegmania
Worth noting: Played for current Georgia assistant Erik Pastrana as a freshman at Oklahoma State.
Quotable: “He pursues balls with two hands, he throws his body around – offensively and defensively. He is ultra competitive and just a hard playing guy. You love coaching guys like that.”--Mike White
Terry Roberts
G, 6-3, 180, Sr., Bradley, North Amityville, N.Y,
Stats: 14.5 ppg, 4.1 apg, 4.9 rpg.
Worth noting: Roberts recently took “personal time,” from the team and his status for this week is uncertain. “Love him, support him and respect him,” White said.
Fun fact: Played at Florida Southwestern State with Kario Oquendo
Quoteable: “Terry Roberts is a tenacious competitor. … He's great defensively on the ball, he has to continue to develop off of the ball. Can make some shots, he can score a little bit. But offensively, his greatest attribute right now is probably directing traffic and making guys around him better.”--Mike White
