Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver/tight end Arik Gilbert transferred to UGA from LSU. Gilbert was a five-star recruit out of Marietta and committed to LSU over Georgia.

Gilbert played one season with the Tigers, but opted out of a few games at the end of the season. He then elected to enter the transfer portal. First, Gilbert committed to the Florida Gators, but he went back on his decision and eventually decided to stay closer to home and play for the Bulldogs.

Kirby Smart and Georgia will need receivers such as Gilbert to step up in George Pickens’ absence (torn ACL). Jermaine Burton, Darnell Washington, Arian Smith, Adonai Mitchell, Dominick Blaylock and Kearis Jackson will play a larger role in games with Pickens out.

The Georgia offense looked much better to end the 2021 college football season under quarterback J.T. Daniels. Arik Gilbert is an excellent pass catcher. It doesn’t matter if he lines up at wide receiver or tight end. Gilbert has the skills to do both.

Arik Gilbert caught 35 passes for 368 yards and found the end zone twice. Gilbert was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team and put up great numbers despite only playing in eight games for several different quarterbacks.

In high school, Gilbert helped lead Marietta to a state championship in 2019 and was named Gatorade National Player of the Year.
