Georgia man, 47, killed in Friday evening hit-and-run; troopers seek public help

A 47-year-old Lithonia, Georgia, man died Friday evening when an unknown car struck him.

The hit-and-run happened shortly after 7 p.m. Friday along Old U.S. 41, south of Compound Road, in Bonita Springs, according to an incident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The car was traveling south on Old U.S. 41 Road as the pedestrian walked in the southbound lane.

The front of the car hit the pedestrian and later fled south on Old U.S. 41, troopers said.

The pedestrian died on scene. He's at least the 123rd death on Lee County roads this year.

Troopers say the identity of car, as well as the driver, remain unknown and under criminal investigation.

Troopers urge anyone with information to contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).

Tipsters may also be eligible for a reward of up to $3,000 in cash if their tip leads to an arrest.
