Georgia man dies after grain bin elevator collapses on top of him

A Georgia man is dead after a grain bin elevator collapsed on top of him in Sumpter County.

Sumter County Fire Rescue said that rescue crews were called out to the Plains Experiment Station on June 17 after receiving reports of a person pinned under heavy equipment.

First responders got to the scene and reported that a grain bin elevator had collapsed and trapped a man.

The man had already been removed by facility employees. SCFR and Gold Star EMS personnel started resuscitative measures, but the man did not survive.

SCFR expressed its condolences in a Facebook post.

“Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all those who are touched by this tragic incident,” the post read.

SCFR did not independently identify the victim, but a family member commented under the SCFR post thanking everyone for their prayers and the fire department for its efforts in trying to save their loved one.

“On behalf of my family, I would like to say thank you for your prayers and a special thank you to the first responders and coworkers for your efforts to save our beloved uncle, Michael Bailey. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. May God continue to keep and bless you all,” said the family member.
