Georgia police investigating murder-suicide in Chick-fil-A drive-thru

A Chick-fil-A in Rome, Ga. was closed Wednesday after an apparent murder-suicide in the restaurant’s drive-thru lane.

The Rome Police Department said officers were dispatched after an “accident with injury” was reported at the fast food restaurant around 7 a.m. Before they arrived, the report was updated to a shooting.

Police said a man shot a woman who was in a car three times with a revolver and then turned the gun on himself. One body was found near the restaurant’s pickup station in the drive-thru lane and another was found in a silver SUV nearby, according to the Rome News Tribune.

The incident was initially reported as an accident because the SUV kept moving after the shooting. The car hit a power box and rolled down an embankment into traffic before coming to a stop.

The two were later identified as 56-year-old Anthony Wayne Green and 39-year-old Cassie Lashae Davis, a mother of 7. The pair had previously been in a romantic relationship, police said. Both lived in Rome, about 65 miles northwest of Atlanta.

Speaking to Fox 5 Atlanta, Davis’ mother, Kathie Walters, described Green as a “jealous ex-boyfriend.”

“He just wouldn’t leave her alone,” Walters said. “That’s one thing she told me yesterday, that he was following her around.”

Police said the Chick-fil-A had nothing to do with this incident as the victim was just there to get breakfast. However, the restaurant was closed for the day but planned to re-open on Thursday, according to a statement from general manager Greg Major.

“A horrific incident occurred outside our restaurant this morning. We are currently cooperating with the police who are investigating. No other guests or team members were hurt, but we mourn with the community. We have closed the restaurant for the day to repair and care for team members.”
