Georgia power outage tracker: Severe weather leaves 160,000 customers without electricity
Over 160,000 homes and businesses lost electricity across Georgia Monday as thunderstorms sweep the state.
Georgia Power said their crews are working quickly to resolve power outages caused by high winds, heavy rainfall, hail and uprooted trees.
DeKalb and Fulton counties lead with the most reported outages with 58,685 and 17,315 respectively as of Monday, according to USA TODAY's power outage tracker.
Numerous storms moved through metro Atlanta and other parts of Georgia starting Monday afternoon with warnings in effect until late in the day, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS reported powerful storms with winds of 70 mph in Atlanta encouraging anyone in its path to seek shelter urgently.
"As strong storms continue to move across our state tonight our crews are assessing damage and are ready to begin repairs as soon as it is safe to do so," said Andrew Huff, Georgia Power's creative manager, in a video post on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Wind gusts up to 80 mph, hail, and heavy rains have impacted service to some customers across the state today. Please stay safe, and stay tuned for updates on our restoration efforts. Thank you for your patience. pic.twitter.com/XRYIw6GTBc
