Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett endorses Arch Manning's skills

Future Texas quarterback Arch Manning, the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, will undoubtedly walk into a pressure situation after he signs with the Longhorns, said Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett. "But he knows it, he accepts it," Bennett said. "He’s got a level head on his shoulders. He’ll be a really good player.”

ATLANTA — You can count Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett as a member of the Arch Manning Fan Club.

But not as a fellow Bulldogs alum someday.

The senior quarterback for the Bulldogs, who are coming off a national championship season, was one of the college quarterbacks who helped out with the Manning Passing Academy this summer. And he undoubtedly had a strong recruiting spiel for the five-star quarterback from New Orleans to no avail since Manning committed to Texas that week.

It was very clear Wednesday during SEC media days that Bennett has tons of respect for the latest in the Manning dynasty.

“Arch makes his own decisions,” Bennett said of the 6-4, 215-pound quarterback from New Orleans. “He’s a really good player and a good kid.”

Bohls: Arch Manning's commitment a huge endorsement for Sarkisian, Texas' future

Bennett said he expects big things out of Manning, who enters his senior high school season with a 25-6 record as a three-year starter with a better than 65% career completion accuracy. He’s the No. 1 overall recruit in the nation, according to 247 Sports' composite rankings.

“You think Peyton and Eli were under a lot of pressure going to college (at Tennessee and Ole Miss). Arch is going to have a lot of pressure," Bennett said. "But he knows it, he accepts it. He’s got a level head on his shoulders. He’ll be a really good player.”

Golden: With Arch Manning committed, Texas should just embrace its recruiting criticisms

The recruitment of Manning may be a sore subject for Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, who lost out on the five-star blue-chipper in a huge battle that came down to Texas, Georgia and Alabama.

When asked by the American-Statesman how he would rate Texas' Steve Sarkisian as a recruiter, Smart said, “I don’t know. I’ve never recruited with him.”

But when he was reminded that he’s gone up against Sarkisian in head-to-head recruiting battles even though coaches are strictly prohibited from discussing specific players by name, Smart said, “Not really. Not anybody I can talk about.”
