Georgia Teacher Accused of 'Inappropriate' Relationship With Student Kills Himself

Zachary Meadors had a warrant out for his arrest at the time of his death.

A Georgia man accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student has been found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

Family members of Zachary Meadors, 28, filed a missing persons reported for the teacher Wednesday, but police reportedly found him slumped over in a vehicle on the Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville later that afternoon.

Meadors taught at Freedom Middle School in Stone Mountain for two years. At the time of his death, he was wanted on charges of child molestation, computer pornography and child exploitation in regard to a 12-year-old boy who told a school counselor he was having an inappropriate relationship with Meadors, according to reports.

Meadors was set to meet with school officials about the allegations Monday, but never showed up.

The teacher was also captured on camera leaving letters and an iPad on the doorstep of his parents' Lawrenceville home, according to WSB-TV.

“In this letter, Zachary was apologizing for all the chaos he caused," a police report said. "The second letter was written out to his family. (In) this letter, Zachary expressed how much he loved his family and he apologized for the image they may have of him now.”

Another letter addressed how he wanted his finances to be allocated.

Meadors was on leave without pay at the time of his death.
