Georgina Bloomberg opens up about relationship with Trump children: 'We're good friends'

Michael Bloomberg’s daughter Georgina has opened up about her friendship with members of the Trump family.

During an interview with the Palm Beach Post, Ms Bloomberg, 37, a professional equestrian and animal activist discussed her passion for horseback riding, her father’s dedication to protecting the environment, and her friendship with both Eric Trump and his wife Lara.

“She’s a very good friend,” Ms Bloomberg told the outlet. “I grew up with Eric. I’ve known him since we were kids and we’re good friends as well.”

“Laura [sic] does great stuff with animals,” she added. “We do a lot of rescue work together. She’s great.”

In March, Ms Bloomberg and Ms Trump were scheduled to co-host a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago to benefit rescue dogs. Neither woman attended the event due to “scheduling conflicts”.

The pair later co-hosted the second annual Rescue Dogs Rock gala in New York City in October.

According to Ms Bloomberg, their friendship continues despite the ongoing political competition between the Democratic presidential candidate and the President of the United States because the focus is only on the “animals”.

“To me, being an activist is just trying to make a difference in whatever you care about,” she said. “And for me, that’s always been animals.”

The 37-year-old’s comments come after she said she was grateful her father hadn’t run against Donald Trump in March 2016.

Speaking to W Magazine, Ms Bloomberg said that although she would have supported her father if he entered the race, she was grateful to avoid the “mud slinging” as she and the Trump children were “good friends”.

“I’ve learned to separate the politician from the man, because it’s something I always had to do with my father,” she said. “Donald Trump and his family have always been very close [to me]. I’m good friends with his kids. I was not looking forward to having to watch our fathers go against each other.”

Ms Bloomberg has previously defended Mr Trump’s daughter Ivanka as well.

In 2016, she told Politico that the president is a “great father” and that she understands the difficulty Ivanka faces.

“Donald has always been, and still is, a great father, and I know she is very proud of him and what he has accomplished,” she said. “Just like me, this doesn’t mean she has to agree with everything her father stands for - I certainly didn’t agree with everything my father did or believes, but we are our own people.”
