Geraghty wins youth swimming state title

Jul. 26—Eleanor Geraghty of Medford won gold for Superior Aquatics in the 50-meter freestyle at the 11-and-over Oregon State Swimming Championships this past weekend in Gresham.

Geraghty's time of 28.88 seconds was the state's fastest among 13-year-old girls, and was the 10th individual state swimming title in her youth swimming career.

Geraghty also finished second among her age group in the 200-meter freestyle in 2 minutes, 16.17 seconds. She also placed third in the 100 freestyle (1:04.20), 400 freestyle (4:55.96) and 100 butterfly (1:11.39).

Other top-3 swimmers from Superior Aquatics this past weekend included Alexandru Titianu, Brienne Chamberland and Jacob Pirosko.

Titianu, 13, placed third in the 50 freestyle (27.73) and 200 freestyle (2:13.27) events, and the Medford swimmer was fourth in the 400 freestyle (4:43.98) and fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:53.64).

Chamberland, 11, had a busy run July 21-24 as the Medford swimmer placed third in the 50 breaststroke (41.88), fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:33.36), fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:38.28), sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:14.01) and seventh in the 50 freestyle (32.75).

Jacob Pirosko, 16, took third in the 100 butterfly (58.88) and fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:14.71).

In other standout efforts for the Super Aquatics crew: Dylan Wittenberg, 16, placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:01.29) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (55.06); James Geraghty, 11, placed fifth in the 400 freestyle (5:42.38); Eli Stebbins, 12, placed sixth in the 50 freestyle (29.88); and Carson Washburn, 18, placed seventh in the 100 freestyle (55.13).

The Superior Aquatics 15-and-over boys relay team of Cole Schiffer, Pirosko, Washburn and Wittenberg finished fourth in the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:42.01). The group also was sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:47.64) and eighth in the 200 medley relay (1:55.82).
