Details: Scholz gave a speech at Munich's Marienplatz square, where several hundred AfD supporters gathered to try to disrupt the event. They whistled and shouted at the words of the chancellor, and also arranged protests nearby, DPA notes.

In contrast, among the crowd in the square, many of those present greeted Scholz's words with applause, in addition, many brought Ukrainian flags with them.

Scholz began his speech by explaining Berlin's policy in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, including the supply of weapons. He said that Germany and a number of other states supporting Ukraine against this imperialist attack is justified.

Quote: "It also implies that we supply weapons," the chancellor added and stressed that along with this, NATO states are doing everything to prevent a direct escalation with Russia.

Addressing those who call for "an end to the war as soon as possible," Scholz stressed that telling Ukrainians they should just let Russia take over their country has nothing to do with peace.

Everyone who walks around the square posing as a "dove of peace" is in reality "a fallen angel from hell" who speaks the language of "Putin, the warmonger," the German chancellor said.

Scholz's speech is connected with the upcoming elections in the federal state of Bavaria which will be held in six weeks. His Social Democratic Party has 9-11% support, caused primarily by the failed policies of the federal government.

Most Germans are unhappy with the performance of Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the first time since he took office in 2021, according to recent polls.
