Pistorius said he was “somewhat disappointed or irritated by the behavior of Hungarian friends” for blocking the aid, reported dpa.

“This is not the principle of European solidarity, which I believe is correct,” he said.

The blocking prevents EU member states from reimbursing the costs for military aid to Ukraine, said Pistorius.

The minister called such Hungary’s decision an “unsuccessful step.”

Prior to that, the EU defense ministers failed to increase the European Peace Fund to EUR 3.5 billion over Hungary’s stance.

Hungary has vowed to block further aid packages to Ukraine if Kyiv does not revise its decision on restrictions against the largest Hungarian bank OTP, which was included in the list of sponsors of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Earlier U.S.-based political newspaper Politico reported that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó quarreled on May 22 during a foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels over the role a controversial Hungarian bank is playing in Russia’s war in Ukraine.
