German farm quarantined in coronavirus outbreak
A Bavarian cucumber farm has been placed under quarantine after more than 170 workers there tested positive for the new coronavirus.
All 480 employees at the premises in Mamming, in southern Germany, are forbidden from leaving - even those who have tested negative - and private security guards are supervising the lockdown.
Many of the infected workers are "harvest helpers", often eastern European workers drafted in for the season and living at close quarters.
Germany, which has more than 205,000 cases, has faced several localized outbreaks within the food industry - most notably at meatpacking companies.
Slaughterhouses have faced criticism for the widespread use of sub-contracted migrant workers from eastern Europe, with cramped accommodation and poor oversight suspected of accelerating local coronavirus infections.
