German police mobilise 'hundreds' for border controls

Berlin (AFP) - Hundreds of German police officers have been mobilised to carry out border checks, a spokesman for the federal force told AFP on Sunday, after Berlin reinstated passport controls with its neighbouring countries.

"We are mobilising hundreds" of officers, the spokesman said. Berlin announced Sunday it was reimposing checks at the borders, particularly those with Austria, after a record influx of migrants.
