Germantown Academy's Jordan Longino named Player of the Year for non-PIAA schools

Apr. 26—High honors have gotten routine and redundant for Germantown Academy basketball star Jordan Longino.

Longino, a 6-4 senior guard bound for Villanova, is the non-PIAA Player of the Year, which goes to the leading vote-getter for the Pennsylvania Sportswriters' non-PIAA All-State team, announced Sunday.

Longino was Class 4A Player of the Year last season, when non-PIAA players were included in voting according to their school's PIAA enrollment classification.

Voting was done by a panel of sportswriters, editors and broadcasters from throughout the state.

The Class 1A team will be announced Monday, with teams in each of the other five classifications announced in succeeding days.

Germantown Academy, in suburban Philadelphia, played only nine games in a truncated 2021 season. Longino averaged 21.9 points and seven rebounds, shooting 54 percent from the field.

With 1,763 points, Longino is his program's career scoring leader, having passed Alvin Williams, who played at Villanova and then for 11 seasons in the NBA, mostly for the Toronto Raptors.

Joining Longino on the first team: Jameel Brown, a 6-4 junior guard from the Haverford School; Derek Lively, a 7-foot junior from Westtown; Jaren Warley, a 6-5 senior from Westtown; Gabe Dorsey, a 6-6 senior from the Hill School and Ed Holland, a 6-6 senior from Friends' Central.

Holland, who will attend the University of Pennsylvania, and Dorsey, a Vanderbilt recruit, also earned All-State honors last year. Holland averaged 25.4 points, and 11.6 rebounds.

Brown, who had been out of action for over a year after sustaining a wrist injury in December of 2020, emerged as one of the state's top juniors. He de-committed from Purdue in March and is considering Penn State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Xavier and others.

Lively and Warley are among four players selected from Westtown, a private boarding school in West Chester.

Lively, originally from Bellefonte, is the top-ranked 2022 recruit in the state according to 24/7 Sports. He has offers from North Carolina, UCLA, Georgetown, Ohio State and Penn State.

Warley, a Florida state recruit, is second-ranked in the state and No. 33 in the country in the class of 2021.

The second team: Rahdir Hicks, Malvern Prep (committed to Towson State); Ny'Mire Little, Westtown; Onyekachi Nzeh, George School; Mushin Muhammed, Germantown Friends; Fran Oschell, Malvern Prep; and Quin Berger, Westtown.
