4. (SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMANY COACH, JOACHIM LOEW, SAYING:

"Iceland in past years caused a sensation in several tournaments and ensured a fantastic atmosphere everywhere they played. They are a team which by now is very well organised and they play refreshing soccer. Romania has a very young team, mainly those who played at the last Under 21 Euro championships. They reached the semi-final against Germany and they have a few excellent players. So it's an interesting set-up with these two teams."

STORY: Germany are clear favourites in the 2022 World Cup qualifying Group J when they play opponents such as Liechtenstein, Armenia and North Macedonia, coach Joachim Loew said on Monday (December 7).

Speaking in a video released by the German FA, Loew said it was "of course our ambition to win the group."

Group J, which Loew called "an interesting set-up" also includes Iceland and Romania.

Even an off-colour Germany - who lost 6-0 to Spain last month - should be able to get through the group.

The winners of the 10 European groups will qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar , while the 10 runners-up go into a playoff system along with two teams from the Nations League.

Three of those 12 teams also qualify.
