"New flights are in the works," the Bundeswehr said.

Meanwhile, both aircraft that took off from Germany on Saturday, 14 October, also delivered humanitarian aid to Israel.

Lufthansa had been taking Germans out of Israel on special flights this week, but the German carrier said on Saturday that it was suspending these flights due to security concerns and "unresolved issues of operational stability in Tel Aviv".

The German Foreign Ministry said it has already provided support to about 2,800 Germans who fled Israel by land, air and sea.

Background:

  • Earlier, during her visit to Israel, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock assured her Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen of the solidarity on the part of the German government and the people.

  • Before that, German politicians sharply criticised the demonstrations in Berlin, whose participants rejoiced at the attack by Hamas militants on Israel, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a ban on supporting the activities of the Hamas terrorist organisation in the country.
