In his latest reproval, Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak said in a tweet on Sept. 15 that, “Germany must get on the right side of history, and this is possible only through its leadership in the supply of weapons to Ukraine and a refusal to cooperate with the aggressor country.”

According to Podolyak, the German elite and the German media understand this.

“(German journalist and deputy editor-in-chief of the Bild newspaper) Paul Ronzheimer also explains this brilliantly. (But) Does Chancellor Olaf Scholz understand this?” Podolyak said.

The Ukrainian advisor’s comments came after German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht on Sept. 12 rejected a Ukrainian request to supply battle tanks to Ukraine.

She noted that “so far, no country has supplied Western infantry fighting vehicles or main battle tanks.”

“We’ve agreed with our partners that Germany won’t take such actions unilaterally,” she said.

As reported on Sept. 7, Germany has said it will not supply Dingo armoured vehicles to Ukraine, saying it needs them for its own army. The Bundeswehr has 500 vehicles of this type in service.

Moreover, German newspaper Die Welt reported on Sept. 6 that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had refused to supply Leopard 2 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Commenting on this, Scholz said his country was helping Ukraine enough with weapons, while the decision to transfer any military equipment should be made in coordination with allies.
