Germany will ship Ukraine Taurus long-range missiles after the country’s parliament reached agreement, Ukraine’s Servant of the People MP, Yehor Cherniev, announced on social media on Aug. 7.

“My friends in the Bundestag (German parliament) have just informed me that the key parliamentary factions have reached a consensus on the transfer of Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine,” he said.

Taurus missiles have a range of 500 kilometers and are capable of reaching all occupied territories, including the southern coast of Crimea, Cherniev explained.

“We’ve been working with German parliamentarians for a long time to form a support group, and now, finally, the ice has broken,” the lawmaker said.

“We’re waiting for an official decision.”

The decision would mark a change from July 11, when German Defense Minister announced that the country had no plans to transfer the Taurus missiles to Ukraine. That statement was criticized by several Bundestag members.

Incumbent German lawmaker and former Bundeswehr general, Roderich Kiesewetter, for example, considers it crucial to transfer these types of weapons to Ukraine.

On July 26, the head of the Bundestag Committee on Defense Policy and a member of the Free Democratic Party, Marcus Faber, announced the need to provide the Defense Forces of Ukraine with Taurus long-range missiles.

Pistorius reiterated on Aug. 3 that Germany has no plans to send Ukraine Taurus missiles.
