Germany’s Rheinmetall to manufacture Skynex air defense systems for Ukraine

Equipped with 35mm guns, Skynex is designed to counter UAVs and cruise missiles.

Rheinmetall estimates the cost of the two systems at EUR 182 million ($192 million). Sources told Handelsblatt the German government will foot the bill.

On Dec. 9, German federal government spokesperson Christine Hoffman said Berlin was continuing talks with the United States and other partners about supplying main battle tanks to Ukraine.

Previously, German media reported that the United States were not opposed to Berlin providing Kyiv with Leopard-2 modern MBTs; this was later confirmed by the Chair of Bundestag’s Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann.
