Released right before the start of the final night of the Republican National Convention, the Lincoln Project's latest ad, "Decency," calls out President Trump for his mocking of a disabled reporter. The ad begins with footage of the first time Democratic nominee Joe Biden met Brayden Harrington, a 13-year-old from New Hampshire who went on to speak at last week's Democratic National Convention. Harrington's dad told Biden his son wanted to meet him because he has a stutter, and knew that Biden had one as a child.
The Fox News anchor Chris Wallace pushed back against panelists on a talk show on Thursday after one pundit appeared to justify vigilante justice at the Kenosha protests by blaming Wisconsin's leadership. "On the argument of vigilante justice, when you have no police around to defend businesses and people who are being attacked and their livelihoods burned to the ground, then there is a void that is filled," Katie Pavlich said. Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, of Antioch, Illinois, is accused of shooting and killing two protesters and injuring a third person earlier this week.
Japan's longest-serving prime minister Shinzo Abe announced his resignation on Friday due to his ill health, in a bombshell development that kicks off a leadership contest in the world's third-largest economy. Mr Abe, 65, bowed in apology as he confirmed in a press conference that he was stepping down after nearly eight years at the political helm following a recurrence of a chronic inflammatory bowel condition. "I apologise from the bottom of my heart that despite all of the support from the Japanese people, I am leaving the post with one full year left in my term and in the midst of various policies and coronavirus," he said.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's latest ads take direct aim at swing states and Latinx Americans across the country. Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny is backing the former vice president and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) in the 2020 election, and lent one of his hits to a new ad for the Democrats. The ad features footage of excited President Trump fans in 2016 juxtaposed with a sparsely attended recent rally, as well as Trump's Bible photo-op and that time he hugged and kissed a flag.
After finding a 13-year-old girl from Memphis, Tennessee, who has been missing for nearly a year, Biscayne Park police and other authorities have possibly found her missing sister and arrested their mother. Biscayne Park Detective Rodney Schwartz rode his police motorcycle over to Griffin Boulevard early Tuesday morning after being told about a young girl who was “wandering aimlessly.” When he found her, Sandra Bates, 13, was barefoot and disheveled and had that “thousand-yard stare,” Schwartz said.
Indonesia has received an injection of cash from the United Nation's Green Climate Fund to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle forest fires at a time when the country has had to scale back spending in the area due to coronavirus budget pressures. The $103.8 million fund was granted under the REDD+ programme, a U.N.-backed forestry conservation scheme to tackle climate change, based on progress Indonesia made in 2014-2016, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar said. "Controlling forest fires is an important part in reducing deforestation," she told a virtual briefing on Thursday without specifying how the money would be spent.
A Texas school district has reversed its decision to place a teacher on leave over Black Lives Matter, feminist and pro-LGBTQ posters displayed on the walls of her virtual classroom. Speaking to NBC News, Lifka, 25, said the experience of having national attention turned toward her small classroom has been “overwhelming.”

Andrea Bernstein, a WNYC reporter who wrote a book about the Trump family, said that Ivanka had told a similar story about her building a Lego Trump Tower for her father. That story turned out to be made up.
An Iranian has been sentenced to nine years in jail for beheading his teenaged daughter in her sleep, local media reported Friday, adding that the mother wants him executed. Media said Romina was decapitated at the family home in the village of Talesh in the northern province of Gilan.
Claim: Says Jacob Blake 'declared he had a gun in the car and was going to go get it' and was 'brandishing' a knife. As we wait for a full Wisconsin Department of Justice report on the Jacob Blake shooting, speculation has run rampant online about whether the 29-year-old Kenosha man was armed — and with what — in the moments before a Kenosha police officer shot him seven times in the back. The lack of detailed information from law enforcement has only added to the speculation.

CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta couldn't be more exasperated by President Trump's decision to speak before a packed crowd at the Republican National Convention, fearing some attendees could die from COVID-19 as a result. Trump on Thursday delivered his acceptance speech at the RNC before a crowd of about 1,500 people who weren't practicing social distancing and few of whom were wearing masks, a fact Gupta sounded the alarm about on Friday morning, expressing deep frustration that such an event took place during the coronavirus pandemic. "The history books will be written about this chapter in our lives at some point, and it will show events like that and say that in the middle of a pandemic ...
Sen. Thom Tillis said Friday he "fell short" for not wearing a mask or urging his fellow attendees at the Republican National Convention to do so. Tillis (R-N.C.) has been a vocal proponent of wearing masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus and posted a picture of himself as one of the few people wearing one during President Donald Trump's keynote speech Thursday night. Tillis' zeal for enforcing masks has landed him in hot water in the past.
Israel's government has asked the country's airlines to submit bids for a special flight to carry an Israeli delegation and top aides to U.S. President Donald Trump to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next week, an aviation source said on Thursday. Flag carrier El Al Israel Airlines and smaller rival Israir both submitted bids for what would be the first flight by an Israeli commercial carrier to the Gulf state, the source said, and a decision is expected later on Thursday.

Over the last three months in Portland, mass protests against police violence and racism gradually gave way to nightly often violent standoffs between a core of pro-Black Lives Matter and anti-fascist protesters and law enforcement. But in the past week the city has fallen back into a pattern of more politically polarized street violence which has marked the city throughout the Trump era, with broadly leftwing and anti-fascist activists sometimes facing off against far-right groups. Last weekend a rightwing “Say no to Marxism in America” rally saw serious, widespread violence.
Austin Ferrell made headlines when he earned the title of deadliest shot at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, but the 21-year-old who grew up shooting in Culpeper, Virginia was actually hoping to shoot better than his record-breaking rifle qualification score. Ferrell, who speaks in a humble tone, said he was excited about setting the new record, but not as much as some of his fellow Marines.
