Germany to send 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine by end of July

Rheinmetall did not disclose the cost of the infantry fighting vehicles, and the German government will finance their acquisition. The Marders will be refurbished, existing vehicles.

Meanwhile, the German government said that also by the end of July, another batch of 10,000 rounds of 35mm ammunition for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns will be shipped to Ukraine.

In late March, Berlin delivered the first 40 Marders to Kyiv: 20 from company stocks and 20 from Bundeswehr warehouses. Rheinmetall has another 60 infantry fighting vehicles available that can be overhauled.

Reports indicate Germany plans to continue to provide Ukraine with armored personnel carriers. Berlin may also reconsider supplying fighter jets in the near future, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said.

However, he ruled out delivering long-range Taurus cruise missiles for now.
