Germany's Rheinmetall to supply Ukraine with 25 Leopard-1 tanks
German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall is preparing to send 25 Leopard-1A5 tanks to Ukraine, financed by the German government, the company said in a statement on Nov. 14.
In addition to the main battle tanks, the order includes five armored recovery vehicles and two driver training tanks. Rheinmetall has not disclosed the exact cost of the order but clarified that it involves tens of millions of euros. This cost includes training, logistics, spare parts, repair services, and other services.

The military equipment will be delivered to Ukraine in 2024. Work on refurbishing the Leopard-1 tanks is being conducted at Rheinmetall facilities in Unterlüß and Kassel.

The company has also received an order to prepare 80 Marder armored personnel carriers for delivery to Ukraine. At the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, five Caracal infantry fighting vehicles will be sent to Ukraine. Additionally, in 2024, 14 Leopard-2A4 tanks will be delivered by order of the Netherlands and Denmark.
In early October, Rheinmetall received a substantial order for the supply of artillery ammunition following the second tender under a framework contract with the German government.

On Nov. 8, Rheinmetall announced that they had received an order from the government to supply approximately 100,000 120mm mortar shells to Ukraine.
On Nov. 11, German newspaper Bild, citing government sources, reported that Berlin will double military aid to Ukraine in 2024, allocating EUR 8 billion ($8.7 billion).
