Metro RTA, the public transportation provider in Summit County, has named Gert Wilms as its new legal and government affairs officer.

In this role, Wilms — former Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan's chief of staff and former chief prosecutor for the city — will oversee legal and government affairs, ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations. She'll also assist in developing and implementing public policies and programs to help local communities.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to enhance Metro’s partnerships in the communities weserve,” said Wilms. “With my years of experience in the public sector, my goal is to enhance policiesand programs from the inside out.”

Wilms has spent over 20 years as a prosecutor, has advocated for the Battered Women's Shelter of Summit County and was a founding member of the Akron Pride Festival — overseeing strategic initiatives and special projects originating from the mayor's office.
