It's getting hotter. Temperature could top 90 in southern Erie County on Friday.

You might want to fill the ice cube trays and head outside for a breeze as temperatures climb into the upper 80s with mostly sunny skies Friday.

Friday's high temperature in Erie will be about 88 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast office in Cleveland. Temperatures in southern Erie County could climb higher, and Meadville's predicted high is 91.

"We're going to see a little bubble of the heat wave that's been impacting folks out west and in the central plains states," said National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Gibbons. "It will be very summerlike with highs above normal before a cold front blows through and blows us back down to normal over the weekend."

There is an 80% chance of thunderstorms overnight Friday and for much of Saturday. The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Erie and Crawford counties, and for the Ashtabula County lakeshore in Ohio, that warns some thunderstorms may be strong to severe and that isolated flash flooding is possible.

Temperatures across much of the West and Midwest have topped 100 degrees this week. It's been particularly sweltering in Phoenix, where temperatures topped 110 degrees for days.

Saturday will be cooler, with a high in the upper 70s and a nighttime low of 62. Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 75.
