Getting rid of unused prescriptions in Placer County? Here’s where to take them this weekend

Do you have unused or unwanted medication in your home?

On Saturday, Placer County residents can get rid of those medications in the county’s free medication take-back event.

Locations in Truckee, Auburn, Roseville, Lincoln, Rocklin and Loomis will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to receive prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, veterinary medications and vaping devices with the batteries removed.

“Unacceptable items include sharps, lancets, medical waste, illicit drugs, cannabis products, aerosols and hydrogen peroxide,” the county said.

Residents are asked to leave pills in prescription bottles. Personal information can be removed, but it is not mandatory because the bottles will be incinerated, the county said.

“This is an important tool to help keep potentially dangerous prescription drugs out of the hands of teens, young children and even seniors who might misuse them or make mistakes,” said Christina Ivazes, a health education program coordinator for the county in a statement. “Proper disposal also protects our environment by keeping these substances out of the soil and water supply.”
