GFH boys', girls' soccer teams fall in playoff games
The seasons for both the Great Falls High boys’ and girls’ soccer teams ended Tuesday with first-round losses in the Class AA playoffs.
The No. 6 seed Bison boys dropped a 4-1 road decision to Billings Senior, the East’s No. 3 seed, while No. 3 Bozeman defeated the No. 6 Great Falls High girls 3-0.
Senior Mehki Barnes booted the score for the Bison boys of head coach Ian Deal, who finished the season with a 3-10-2 record.
Nate Cullingworth knocked in a goal and added a pair of assists for the Broncs, while Jake Woog and Kyler Ronish each tallied a score and an assist. Teylor Ronish also found the back of the net for an unassisted Senior goal.
Sophomore Maya Bossenbrook netted a hat trick for the Bozeman girls in their victory over Great Falls High. The Bison kept it close early, only trailing 1-0 at the half on a Bossenbrook goal in the 14th minute, according to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
Great Falls High had a shot at the equalizer in the 46th minute on a free kick from Aubrey Bretz, the Chronicle reported, but was turned back by Bozeman, setting up a Bossenbrook transition goal on an assist from Hadley Brown.
Bossenbrook notched her third goal of the day in the 67th minute on a corner kick.
The Bison finish their season with a record of 3-9-3.
In other playoff action Tuesday, the No. 5 Belgrade boys downed Bozeman Gallatin 5-4 in an Eastern AA matchup, while Glacier blanked Flathead 4-0 in Kalispell in a West showdown.
Missoula Sentinel, the No. 3 girls’ team in the West, defeated Flathead 3-0 as well Tuesday in the opening-round contest.
