GG Jackson a headliner, but Gamecocks also tracked these Peach Jam prospects closely

Five-star basketball prospect GG Jackson was a focal point of the South Carolina coaching staff last week during the final live recruiting period of the summer.

USC coach Lamont Paris and assistants Tanner Bronson and Tim Buckley were at all three of Jackson’s games that Division I coaches could watch at the NIKE EYBL Peach Jam event in North Augusta.

Jackson committed to the Gamecocks on Saturday. But the Ridge View High standout wasn’t the only prospect Paris and his assistants watched at the Peach Jam and the Adidas 3SSB Open in California.

Here is a look at some of the players USC coaches were watching since the live period began Wednesday, and an update on their recruitment:

Coen Carr

Position: Forward

Class: Senior

School/AAU: Legacy Charter/Georgia Stars

About him: Gamecocks coaches were at all of Carr’s games, including the final contest Friday night in which he scored 14 points and had 7 rebounds.

The Gamecocks offered Carr after seeing him at the NBA Top 100 Camp in Orlando last month. He won the Rodney Rogers Courage award at the camp.

The 6-foot-7 Carr is a four-star prospect and ranked No. 61 in the country for the Class of 2023 by 247Sports Composite.

Recruiting: Some of his recent offers include LSU, Pittsburgh, UConn and North Carolina State. He plans to take official visits to Tennessee and Michigan State this week.

Carr has taken an unofficial visit to USC and said Friday the Gamecocks will get one of his official visits in the fall. He plans on announcing his college choice in October.

Quote: “The unofficial visit was real good, the facilities were great. Coach Paris just told me South Carolina is a great chance to play closer to home and that I could come in right away and make a big impact.”

Jordan Butler

Position: Forward

Class: Senior

School/AAU: Christ Church/1of1 Elite

About him: Butler is the top instate priority for USC coaches for the Class of 2023. USC coach Lamont Paris and assistant Tim Buckley were there Friday to see Butler play at Peach State, the independent hoops tournament held at Augusta University. The 6-foot-11 forward injured his ankle the day before and didn’t play Friday.

Butler averaged 14.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.8 blocks last season for Christ Church. 247Sports Composite ranks Butler as the No. 57 prospect for the Class of 2023, and he attended NBA Top 100 camp last month.

Recruiting: Butler told The State last month he plans on taking official visits to FSU, Missouri and South Carolina. He can take two more visits as each player can take up to five official visits during his senior year.

Quote: “I really like coach Paris. The whole staff. It was a really good experience and I got to meet everybody. “They have been texting me almost every day. They tell me I’m No. 1 on their list and things like that. It is a good thing to hear.”

Jaylen Curry

Position: Guard

Class: Senior

School/AAU: Calvary Academy (Fla.)/Boo Williams

About him: Gamecocks coach Lamont Paris and assistant Tim Buckley were on hand for Curry’s game on Friday.

Curry was teammates last season at Chambers High in Charlotte with Gamecocks signee Daniel Hankins-Sanford. He averaged 16.6 points and 9.1 assists per game as a junior.

247Sports Composite ranks Curry as a four-star prospect and No. 78 in the Class of 2023. Earlier this summer, Curry announced that he would be transferring to Calvary Academy in Florida for his senior season.

Curry’s family has ties to the USC program, with his uncle Lakeem Jackson playing at South Carolina.

Recruiting: South Carolina has yet to offer but they are interested. Some of Curry’s offers include Memphis, Xavier and Florida State. He said plans to take official visits to Pittsburgh and Memphis.

Quote: “Me watching my uncle at South Carolina, I like the way they played and go up and down the court. I really became a fan of the Gamecocks.”

Collin Murray-Boyles

Position: Forward

Class: Senior

School/AAU: Wasatch Academy (Utah)/Upward Stars SE

About him: South Carolina assistant Eddie Shannon was in California to watch Murray-Boyles and Upward Stars SE play in the Adidas event. The Gamecocks offered Murray-Boyles back in June and are his only Power Five offer to this point.

Murray-Boyles had a big junior season in helping A.C. Flora to the Class 4A state championship game. The Class 4A Player of the Year averaged 18.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 5.3 blocks, 2.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Murray-Boyles plans to play his senior season at Wasatch Academy in Utah.

Recruiting: Some of Murray-Boyles’ recent offers include Coastal Carolina, Belmont, Appalachian State and Wofford. He took a visit to Belmont last month and said his recruiting is wide open.

Quote: “I have no favorites, I’m all arms out. I’m taking it slow and seeing what will happen.”

Cam Scott

Position: Guard

Class: Junior

High School/AAU: Lexington/Team United

About him: The Gamecocks coaches were at all of Scott and Team United’s games at Peach Jam, and he is the top in-state priority for Class of 2024. 247Sports ranks Scott as a five-star prospect and No. 26 nationally in his class.

Scott averaged 17 points per game over the final two contests at Peach Jam.

The 6-foot-5 Scott averaged 21.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game for Lexington as a sophomore and earned his second all-state honor. He attended the NBA Top 100 camp last month.

Recruiting: Scott attended several games at South Carolina last year. The Gamecocks aren’t the only team after Scott, as North Carolina and Oregon coaches were also at his games last week. Kentucky coach John Calipari was at his game Friday, and Duke coaches watched him Thursday and Friday.

Scott told The State that he will take his first official visit to Oregon on Oct. 1.

Scott said other possible official visits include North Carolina and Florida State, but no dates have been set. Class of 2024 basketball prospects can start taking official visits beginning Aug. 1 before their junior year of high school.

Quote: “I’m looking forward to seeing what they (USC) could bring in their first year, not even just player-wise but energy, and see what type of play style they have, how they like to perform and see the relationship they will build with their players.”

Kyle Greene

Position: Guard

Class: Junior

High School/AAU: Pace Academy (Ga.)/Upward Stars SE

About him: South Carolina assistant Eddie Shannon was in California to watch Greene and Upward Stars SE play in the Adidas event.

Greene was a target under the old USC staff under Frank Martin and was offered by Lamont Paris last month on the first day coaches could contact Class of 2024 prospects.

The 6-foot-2 Greene played his freshman year at Blythewood High in South Carolina before transferring to Pace Academy in Georgia. He averaged 8.6 points, 6.5 and 2.9 rebounds last year. He is ranked as a top-75 prospect nationally by multiple recruiting services.

Recruiting: Greene visited South Carolina a few times for games. He has almost 20 offers, with some of the most recent ones including Missouri, Tennessee, South Florida, Georgia and Harvard.

Elijah Crawford

Position: Guard

Class: Junior

High School/AAU: Legacy Early College/The Skill Factory

About him: Gamecocks coaches were at multiple Crawford games at Peach Jam.

Crawford played last season at Augusta Christian and helped them to the SCISA 3A championship. He is transferring to Legacy Early College in Greenville next season.

Recruiting: The Gamecocks have yet to offer but did contact him last month on the first day coaches could contact Class of 2024 prospects. He has taken an unofficial visit to USC.

Crawford has offers from Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU, Wichita State, Xavier and Georgia State.

Quote: “Coach Paris called me (on June 15) and told me that I was a priority and they look forward to recruiting me.”

Bryson Cokley

Position: Guard

Class: Junior

High School/AAU: Christ School (N.C.)/CP3

About him: Lamont Paris and two assistants attended Cokley’s game on Wednesday at Peach Jam.

The 6-foot-5 Cokley averaged 9.3 points per game last season at Christ School.

Recruiting: The Gamecocks haven’t offered yet but have shown interest. Some of his other offers include Wake Forest, Georgia State and Appalachian State.
