Ghana Becomes First Country to Receive COVID Vaccines Through UN Initiative

Ghana became the first country in the world to receive COVID-19 vaccines as part of the UN’s equitable vaccine initiative, COVAX, as doses arrived in Accra on Wednesday, February 24, UNICEF Ghana said.

The government of Ghana said the delivery contained 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine sent from India.

Health workers, people over 60, those with underlying health conditions, and frontline workers will be among those to receive the vaccine first, the government said.
