Ghost outlet deletes covert surveillance video of Bihus.Info team amid police investigation

The media outlet Narodna Pravda, which published an illicitly sourced surveillance video the Bihus.Info team, has removed the video and closed its YouTube channel, Bihus.Info reported on Jan. 19.

The removal of materials occurred after the police announced the initiation of an investigation based on a complaint from the media team.

The page containing the news is now unavailable, and attempting to access the video on YouTube displays a message stating that the user has closed their account.

A video surfaced online on Jan. 16 allegedly showing Bihus.Info staff using drugs. Bihusclaimed that there had been illegal surveillance lasting about a year, containing edited fragments from different times.

On Jan. 17, Ukraine’s SBU Security Service initiated a criminal case for illegal eavesdropping and video recording by the Narodna Pravda’s employees. Law enforcement does not rule out violations of drug-related laws in the published materials.

On Jan. 15, unknown individuals attempted to break into journalist Yuriy Nikolov’s Kyiv apartment. Nikolov exposed inflated prices for Ministry of Defense products, leading to the resignation of Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov and the parliament adopting a bill on transparent defense procurement. Nikolov’s mother was at home during the break-in attempt.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the pressure on journalists on Jan. 17, stating that it is unacceptable.
