Gia Giudice knows perhaps better than anyone what it’s really like to come of age in front of reality TV cameras.

As the oldest daughter of original Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice, she’s been privy to major moments on the hit Bravo show throughout its 12-season run (so far!), all the while growing up with America watching.

“When my mom flipped the table, that was the biggest talk of the town,” she told Brooks Marks on the latest episode of In The Know’s original miniseries Growing Up Reality With Brooks Marks. “They’d be like, ‘Oh, her mom’s crazy.’ It’s like, ‘Yeah, it was pretty crazy, but it was also iconic.'”

What the Rutgers University student has noticed over the years is how each season puts the women on the cast into different roles, and she’s seen her mother playing all of them.

“Every season has its villain, and every season has the person they’re attacking or targeting,” Gia explained. “And every season they also have their favorite, so it’s the villain, the person they’re attacking and the person that looks the best on the show. I’ve seen that formation, where it’s been my mom [who’s] the one who everyone is against, or the next season she is the one who looks great. That was the hardest thing to struggle with, because it’s like, ‘Well, that’s not how it went down,’ or ‘That’s not how that actually happened.’ But I’ve learned to embrace it and to say exactly what I want to say when I’m being filmed. Otherwise, you’re not going to get your point across and the viewers are going to have a different perception [of] you.”

And it’s not just her mother who Gia has seen take on a variety of roles within the confines of RHONJ: Just as she herself has been a significant player in the drama during several seasons — particularly more recent ones — she’s seen her younger sisters do so as well. As a teaser for the upcoming 13th season, she tells Brooks that her usually quiet sister Gabriella makes her voice heard in front of the cameras for the first time.

“My sister Gabriella is very private, but this season … you’ll see! She finally spoke, because she was like, ‘Nobody ever sees me speak my opinion on this show, so for me to actually speak it now will speak volumes.’ Because she doesn’t usually speak on it, so I was really proud of her for doing that.”

All in all, while Gia has been through a lot as the cameras were rolling, she wouldn’t have it any other way: It’s given her ample material to look back on and reflect on incredible memories with her family, despite whatever drama was happening in their lives.

“What I like most about being on the show for 13 years is all the memories,” she said. “There’s footage of all of these cute memories growing up from when I was little and of my grandparents.”
