Giants dominated by far superior Rams, 38-11, in Week 6

The New York Giants opened Week 6 as 7.5-point home underdogs against the Los Angeles Rams and that briefly ballooned to +10.5. And that’s probably where the spread should have stayed.

After taking a brief first quarter lead, it was all downhill for the Giants from there. They failed and were beaten in every aspect of the game, leaving a half-empty MetLife Stadium to boo.

Injuries were again the theme as several players were lost, but that will not and can not be used as an excuse.

Following their latest loss, New York now falls to 1-5 on the season with no real breaks coming in the immediate future.

Quarterback Daniel Jones threw an interception to Rams safety Taylor Rapp while targeting tight end Evan Engram with 5:01 remaining in the second quarter.

Rapp, who had dropped into the zone, followed Jones’ eyes and made an easy pick. It set the Rams up for their third score in a seven-minute span, increasing the lead to 21-3.

With left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot/ankle) and wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle) out of the game, the sputtering Giants offense stood no chance at coming back from 18 down.

Right tackle Nate Solder was smoked by Rams linebacker Leonard Floyd on the first play of the game and immediately exited with a hand/wrist injury. He returned to start the second offensive series and stayed in.

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle) limped off the field on the team’s first offensive series of the game and appeared to be in significant pain. After being examined by trainers, he was escorted to the locker-room. The Giants later ruled him out for the game.

Midway through the second quarter, left tackle Andrew Thomas, who was already nursing a foot injury, got rolled up on and stayed down for a moment. He eventually hobbled off the field and was listed as questionable to return. The team later downgraded him to out.

Late in the second quarter, wide receiver C.J. Board went down with what appeared to be a severe left arm injury. He was in serious pain while being examined by trainers on the field. The Giants ruled him out after he was put in an air cast and carted to the locker-room.

After hauling in his second interception of the game midway through the fourth quarter, safety Xavier McKinney headed to the bench injured. He later returned.

With time winding down in the fourth quarter, defensive tackle Danny Shelton suffered a potentially serious pectoral issue and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Giants head coach Joe Judge will hold a conference call with the team’s beat writers on Monday afternoon before a few players are also made available.

The Giants will return to practice on Wednesday ahead of a Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 24 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Kickoff is 1:00 pm. ET.
