The New York Giants have ended their search and are hiring Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as the 22nd head coach in the 96-year history of the franchise.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was among the first to report the news.

Daboll, 46, was chosen over a slew of very capable candidates that included former Miami Dolphins head coach Brain Flores, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

Daboll was the only offensive coach the Giants considered for the job. He becomes the fifth head coach since the team parted ways with Tom Coughlin in January of 2016. He was followed by Ben McAdoo, Steve Spagnuolo (interim), Pat Shurmur and Joe Judge.

Daboll steered the Bills to a banner season on offense in 2021, finishing third in the NFL with 28.4 points per game and fifth with a 381.9 yards per game average. He was voted the AP’s NFL Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020.

Daboll has an accomplished resume in both the NFL and in college with 20 years of NFL coaching experience. He spent 11 of those seasons as an assistant with the New England Patriots, helping them win five Super Bowls.

The Canadian native was the offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2017, coaching quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurt en route to a national championship.

Daboll has also been the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns Miami Dolphins (2011) and Kansas City Chiefs (2012). He was also the Jets’ quarterbacks coach in 2007-08 under head coach Eric Mangini.

Daboll comes to the Giants a week after they hired Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen. The two worked together in Buffalo the past four seasons, qualifying for the AFC Playoffs the last three years.
