Giants OC Mike Kafka adds assistant head coach to duties as Brian Daboll rounds out staff

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will also serve as the team's assistant head coach after Brian Daboll rounded out his staff Wednesday.

Kafka, who has run the Giants’ offense the past two seasons, has interviewed for several NFL head coaching positions during the last two offseasons. He also coached the West squad to a 26-11 victory in the East-West Shrine Bowl in Frisco, Texas, last Thursday.

Daboll promoted two other assistants: Secondary coach Jerome Henderson will also serve as the Giants' defensive passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney will take on the role of offensive passing game coordinator.

New York also announced the hirings of outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen and defensive assistant Zak Kuhr.

The moves came a day after the Giants formally hired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen and tight ends coach Tim Kelly, both of whom worked with the Tennessee Titans this past season.

Bullen spent the previous two years in the college ranks as outside linebackers coach and pass rush coordinator at Illinois. Kuhr just finished his fourth season with the Titans.
