On Tuesday, not long after losing safety Julian Love, the Giants agreed to terms with his potential replacement: former Washington Commanders defensive back Bobby McCain.

The 29-year-old McCain was originally a fifth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in the 2015 NFL draft. He joined the Commanders as a free agent in 2021 and spent each of the past two seasons in the NFC East.
In 121 career games (87 starts), the 5-foot-11, 196-pound McCain has recorded 393 tackles (301 solo, 12 for a loss), two forced fumbles, 12 QB hits, 4.0 sacks, 44 passes defensed, 11 interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
Two of McCain’s interceptions and his only career touchdown have come against the Giants.
In addition to both free and strong safety, McCain can also play cornerback. Some would even argue that’s his stronger position.
In 2022, McCain earned a 61.4 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, as well as a 69.5 coverage grade. His best analytical season came in 2017 when he earned a grade of 76.4.
