Gibbins, Giumenti shine for Mount Union at YSU Collegiate Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN – The Mount Union track and field teams competed at the YSU Collegiate Invitational Friday night placing 10 top 20 marks in the NCAA Division III.

The Purple Raiders had only one other Division III team while there were multiple Division I and II competing as well.

Junior Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic) along with senior Kennady Gibbins (Fairless) finished third and fourth overall with times of 25.50 and 25.70in the 200-meter dash. Wayt's time is a nation leading time in NCAA Division III while Gibbins is third overall.

Gibbins came back in the long jump finishing second overall with a jump of 18-feet 7-inches which is good for fourth overall in Division III.

Wayt also came back, but in the 60-meter dash and finished fifth overall with a time of 7.82 She ran a 7.80 in the prelim which is good for a tie for third in NCAA Division III.

Sophomore Lauren Roncone (North Canton / Hoover) finished seventh in the long jump with a jump of 17-feet 10.25-inches. With the jump she would be 13th in Division III, but she has jumped farther earlier in the season and is currently ranked sixth overall.

Senior Brody Coleman (Knox, Pa. / Keystone) finished second overall in triple jump with a jump of 47-feet 11.75-inches. With this jump he moves up one spot in Division III to sit now in third place.

Juniors Kyel Wolff (Cleveland / Cuyahoga Heights) and Blaine Kitchen (Tontogany / Otsego) finished third and tied for fourth in the pole vault with heights of 16-feet 3.5-inches and 15-feet.

Both men have jumped higher heights this year with Wolff leading Division III with a height of 16-feet 4.75-inches while Kitchen sits seventh with a height of 15-feet 6.25-inches.

Senior Evan Hershberger (Dalton) finished third in high jump with a leap of 6-feet 6-inches good for a tie for 17th in Division III while sophomore Vincent Giumenti (Dover) finished in 12th with a time of 8:39.60 in the 3,000-meter run which is good for 19th overall in Division III.

The Raiders head to Springfield, Oh. next Saturday, January 29th to compete at Wittenberg University.
