One of Oregon’s most unique hotel and restaurant needs a new operator.

Frenchglen Hotel, nestled below Steens Mountain in southeastern Oregon, needs a concessionaire to take over management in partnership with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

The previous concessionaire retired, a news release said.

The hotel, the centerpiece of the town of the same name, population 12, was built in 1917 and retains much of its historic character.

There are 12 rooms on the property.

“Do you enjoy the charms of rural Eastern Oregon surrounded by the high desert and mountain lakes or gazing upon glittering night skies untouched by city lights?” OPRD said in a news release announcing the opportunity. “This historic hotel has a lot to offer the winning proposal.”

The new concessionaire pays 5% of its revenue and $2,400 a month to maintain the historic property and its infrastructure to OPRD, which owns the property. The agency said the business reported $418,770 in revenue last year.

Anyone interested needs these qualifications, OPRD said:

  • Three years business background and experience in restaurants and hotels.

  • Designated business as S corporation or limited liability corporation to meet land lease requirements.

  • A modern touch to grow the business online with digital reservations.

  • Management experience as they will likely need one to two employees to help with the restaurant and hotel.

Frenchglen is accepting proposals online at bit.ly/431NlAy. Candidates will need to register with OregonBuys or submit completed proposals to Winona.Butler@oprd.oregon.gov. The deadline is 2 p.m. June 2.
