HBO has announced a release date and new teaser trailer for season two of The Gilded Age.

The new season will premiere on October 29, with the new episodes also available on HBO's streaming site Max.

Set during the titular American Gilded Age, the series follows the ambitious Russell family in their climb to the top of New York society, no matter the cost.

In the trailer, we see Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) holding strong on her plans to disrupt high-society, "Mrs Russell... are you sure it's wise to start a war with New York society," Ward McAllister asks her in one clip.

"Yes," she replies. "And you'll need to pick a team."

An official synopsis for the new season reveals that events will pick up on Easter morning in 1883, "with the news that Bertha's bid for a box at the Academy of Music has been rejected.

"Through the eight episodes of the season, we watch as Bertha challenges Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy) and the old system and works to not only gain a foothold in Society, but to potentially take a leading role in it."

Meanwhile, her husband George (Morgan Spector) is forced to deal with growing unionisation at his Pittsburgh steel plant.

Also returning for season two are the rival Brook family, with a new courtship for Ada (Cynthia Nixon), while Marian (Louisa Jacobson) continues to teach at an all girls school. Agnes (Christine Baranski) approves of none of it.

Over in Brooklyn, the Scott family begins to heal from "a shocking discovery," and Peggy (Denée Benton) taps into her "activist spirit" through her work at the NY Globe.

The Gilded Age airs on Sky Atlantic, as well as the streaming service NOW, in the UK. It airs on HBO and HBO Max in the US.
