Apple launched its streaming service recently, with one of its flagship exclusives The Morning Show receiving a... well, let's face it, a pretty tepid response.

One person who had a strong reaction to the Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon drama was Gilmore Girls creator and showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino, specifically to the Apple TV+ show's homage to her most famous project.

For context, a subplot in The Morning Show focuses on a fictional Gilmore Girls: The Musical which one reporter at the station does not want to cover because he thinks it's beneath him.

In response to hearing about this plotline, Sherman-Palladino told TVLine: "[I’m] not going to see it. [The Gilmore plot] doesn’t smell good. It smells really bad, so we’re going to stay far away from that until we get a really good therapist."

The publication previously interviewed The Morning Show's executive producer Kerry Ehrin, who stated that herself and her daughter were big Gilmore Girls fans and the musical "felt like something that actually could [exist]… and also just brushed up against satire — but not so much that it took you out of the reality".

If you've seen The Morning Show's homage to Gilmore Girls, do you think it was done with love or was a bit of a mickey-take?

The Morning Show is available to stream on Apple TV+, while Gilmore Girls is available to watch on Netflix.
