Gilroy woman accused of $300K high-rise fire has history of arson

(KRON) — A woman was arrested for setting a fire at a high-rise building on Friday, the Gilroy Police Department said. Officials said Sonia Garcia, 49, was also a previously convicted arsonist.

Police investigated the fire in the 7900 block of Monterey Street in Gilroy.

The investigation showed Garcia propped tires up against a building before setting the tires on fire, police said.

According to Gilroy PD, Garcia’s fire caused over $300,000 in damages.

Further investigation by Gilroy police after arresting Garcia without incident revealed she was a previously convicted arsonist.

Police said Garcia has since been booked into Santa Clara County Jail for arson.
