Do gingerbread men live in houses made of their own flesh? Snyder's looks to remedy that

It's a thought-provoking question: Do gingerbread men live in houses made of their own flesh?

With this year's holiday season kicking off, Snyder's of Hanover is making a marketing push for their own take on a holiday classic, while seeking to remedy that terrifying concept.

Snyder's of Hanover is encouraging customers to make their own "pretzel cabin" instead of gingerbread houses this year.

"Every holiday season, gingerbread people are forced to live in houses made of themselves," the website for the campaign reads. "But now, you can build them a much more tasteful home, a Snyder's of Hanover Pretzel Cabin."

The Hanover-based company has created a holiday ad campaign for the concept, with a website, video advertisements, and recipes for making the cabins on holiday-themed bags of their products.

The three suggested cabin designs span various experience levels, with a beginner-level "Holiday Haus," a "Tasteful-A-Frame" for intermediate difficulty, and the "Frosted Chalet" for those seeking a challenge.

"Gingerbread people deserve better than a gingerbread house," the website for the campaign reads.

The company went as far as to commission a survey with the Harris Poll, where 54% of respondents admitted to never eating their gingerbread houses. According to that survey, 81% of respondents thought a pretzel house would be tasty, while only 52% felt the same about the classic gingerbread house.

"At Snyder's of Hanover, every holiday is a pretzel holiday," said Nick Hammitt, vice president of Salty Snacks Marketing, Campbell's Snacks, in a press release issued by the company.

Customers are encouraged to share their 'pretzel cabin' creations with the company using the hashtag #SNYDERSPRETZELCABIN on social media.
