Top military leaders and Pentagon officials undermine the U.S. military by forcing critical race theory on America's men and women in uniform, said former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
Service members shouldn't be concerned about the race of the person next to them, Gingrich said. Instead, it is imperative to recognize they are on a mission to defend their country.
"It's been said that soldiers don't fight for some general theory; they fight for the person next to them," he said. "CRT, which causes us to see each other through the lens of race and the oppressor versus the oppressed, is the antithesis of this cohesion."
Critical race theory and other closely related ideologies hold that the United States is inherently racist and that skin color is used to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between white and nonwhite people. Critics claim it relegates all white people to the role of oppressors and all people of color to that of victims.
No other military is putting its soldiers through the teachings seen in the U.S. armed forces — instead, those militaries are focused on fighting wars, he said.
With "China threatening American supremacy, our military should be locked in, not studying a theory that demonizes America," Gingrich wrote in a Fox News opinion article. "What kind of message does this send to Beijing — or Moscow, Tehran or Pyongyang?"
"Unfortunately, it’s not just the Air Force Academy. West Point offers a seminar class on 'White rage.' The chief of Naval Operations recommends 'How to Be an Antiracist' as a 'foundational' text for sailors," he said. "The Navy’s reading list for sailors also includes 'The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness' and 'Sexual Minorities and Politics.' In short, the military has gone woke."
“Simply put, critical race theory undermines our military’s effectiveness, destroying trust and taking focus away from the mission,” he wrote.
