Gio Urshela, Jonathan Loaisiga join crowded Yankees injured list before series vs. Orioles

BALTIMORE — You think losing to the Mets on a walkoff for the 10th loss in their last 14 games was bad on Thursday? Well, things just got worse for the Yankees. Gio Urshela, one of the few in their lineup who has been hitting, was placed on the injured list Friday because of the bone spur in his right elbow he has been trying to play through.

And Jonathan Loaisiga, one of their veteran multi-inning bullpen arms, was added to the IL as well with " a medical condition that prevents him from playing and necessitates him being placed on the IL.”

This was all before the Yankees took the field in Baltimore, trying to fight to stay in second place in the American League East and remain among the top six seeds for the playoffs.

As the Yankees struggled over the last two weeks, Urshela has been one of the few with a productive bat. He was hitting .326/.433/.520 with a home run and five RBI in the last eight games after missing three with this same issue.
