The TV reboot of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was first announced in 2020 and now, over three years later, we finally have an update.

Back in May 2020, it was reported that Amazon Studios was developing a series based on the character of Lisbeth Salander, the protagonist of Stieg Larsson's Millennium series of novels.

The series would not be a continuation of Larsson's works, but instead be a wholly new story for Lisbeth, placing her in the current time period.

Now, Variety has reported that the series has found its showrunner in Veena Sud, who is best known for developing 2011 series The Killing.

The publication adds that plot details for the series are being kept under wraps. Amazon Studios and Left Bank will produce the series in association with Sony Pictures Television.

No casting for the series has been announced, but the role of the adult Lisbeth has previously been played by three actresses on screen.

Prometheus's Noomi Rapace was the first actress to play Lisbeth, appearing as the character in all three Swedish film adaptations of Larsson's Millennium trilogy.

In 2011, Rooney Mara portrayed the character in David Fincher's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, earning an Oscar-nomination for her performance. The English-language adaptation also starred Daniel Craig and Stellan Skarsgård.

For the 2018 sequel The Girl in the Spider's Web, Lisbeth was portrayed by The Crown's Claire Foy, opposite Sverrir Guðnason and Stephen Merchant.

The new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series will be available on Prime Video.
