Girl Scout cookies are coming to Oak Ridge Feb. 10

Beginning on Friday, Feb. 10, Girl Scout cookie booths will begin appearing around Oak Ridge. People with cookie cravings should be able to find cookies at weekend booths in front of Kroger and, beginning the following weekend of Feb. 18, Walmart and Food City, as well as on weekday afternoons and at other businesses in town.

Girl Scouts will be selling old favorites like Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, and Do-Si-Dos, as well as newer varieties like Lemon-Ups, S’mores, and the gluten-free Toffee-tastics. Adventurefuls, a brownie-inspired cookie with a salted caramel center, were very popular when they were introduced last year and should be in plentiful supply this year.

Girl Scouts from kindergarten through high school participate in the cookie sale, learning about goal-setting, interacting with people, business practices, money management, and more.

Funds raised in the cookie sale are divided between the troop and the Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians, the local council that runs Girl Scout camp and other programs for girls. Troops raise money toward a particular goal, such as a camping trip or a service project. All proceeds from Girl Scout cookie sales stay in East Tennessee to directly benefit local girls.

Oak Ridgers searching for Girl Scout cookie booths can go to the Council website, girlscoutsca.org, or to the national Girl Scout website, girlscouts.org, and click on “Find cookies.”
